Alliance Annual Meeting Report
The CT Alliance of Boys & Girls Club, Inc. held its 2006 Annual Meeting on October 17, 2006,at the Trumbull Marriott Hotel in Trumbull. The Nominating Committee submitted its Nominating Committee report. The report extended the Board of Directors’ term of Mr. Michael O’Sullivan, Mr. Jeff Starcher, Mr. Kenneth Bruno and Mr. Jack Ribas for two years
from October 2006 until October 2008. They also nominated for a two-year term beginning in October 2006 the following: Mr. Kenneth Darden of the Boys & Girls Club of Hartford and Ms. Debbie Davis, Boys & Girls Club of America. The following Directors were nominated to serve as Officers of the CT Alliance Board of Directors for two years from October 2006 until October 2008; President – Mr. Jack Ribas, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Club of Lower Naugatuck Valley; First Vice President – Mr. Kenneth Darden, President & CEO, Boys & Girls Club of Hartford; Secretary – Mr. Kenneth Bruno, Executive Director, Boys & Girls
Club of Bridgeport. Treasurer Mr. Calvin Price, Board Member, Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley will continue to serve out his Officer position of Treasurer until the 2007 annual meeting.
Progress is being made to update the Alliance website that will support the Alliance, the Area Council and the individual clubs when completed. The “Alliance Accents” newsletter will be published bi-monthly instead of quarterly and a copy can also be found on the Alliance’s website.
The CT Alliance of Boys & Girls Club, Inc. revised by-laws were reviewed and voted upon. They were approved by all Board Members. A copy of the revised and approved by-laws can be found on the Alliance’s website.
Funding Achievements
Since 1997, the Boys & Girls Clubs in Connecticut have benefited from some $5,100,000 that has been secured through our statewide funding initiatives.
The 16 Connecticut Clubs received almost $564,000 from a private foundation in early 2002 to provide the SMART Moves Curriculum for 2,853 youth.
SMART Moves is a national Boys & Girls program that is proven to reduce youth smoking, substance abuse and other risky behaviors by providing youth with necessary resilience skills and information on the effects of smoking, substance abuse and premature sexual activity.
